CE Quick Start Instructions
To get Zoom Math for your TI-84 Plus CE, click here.
Once you have Zoom Math installed on your CE, you will probably want to buy a registration key or at least get a free registration key that unlocks basic equation solving.
Then type these keystroke sequences to see some Zoom Math tricks and shortcuts:
- 1÷2+2÷3 [trace] [trace] [mode] [mode]
- (x2+5x+6)÷(x2+4x+4) [trace] [trace]
- [2nd-minus] 2x+3 [2nd-minus] [y=] 8 [enter]
Next, try pressing a few keys with [alpha] held down. This shortcut will be useful someday if you want to type several letters in a row.
To solve an equation for a variable, type a+b=4 [enter] [enter] b= [enter]. (Remember, you type the equals sign by pressing the [y=] key.)
If you bought a registration key, to solve a system of linear equations, type x+y=10 [enter] [enter] x-y=2 [trace]. Zoom Math knows two different methods for solving a system of linear equations, and in this case what you’re seeing is the first step of the elimination method. If you press [mode] once, Zoom Math will switch to the substitution method. If you press [mode] again, it will switch back. Once you have traced past the first step, you can’t change the method.
Similarly, Zoom Math knows three methods for solving a quadratic equation, and you can usually switch methods on the first or second step by pressing [mode]. For example, type x2+5x=6 [trace] [mode] [mode] [trace] [mode] [mode] [trace] [trace].
